Guinness World Record Breaking attempt on Sat 8th Nov 2008
Belly dance your way into The Guinness World Record book with BBC Hereford & Worcester and Pudsey.
We're going to attempt to break the world record for the most people belly dancing simultaneously on Saturday November 8th 2008 and raise money for BBC Children in Need at the same time.
As a form of exercise, it can burn as many calories as light jogging, swimming or riding a bike and is becoming increasingly popular, with classes popping up all over the two counties. The current record stands at 267 people as part of the Dancing University Project (Táncoló Egyetem®)at the University of Pécs, set in Hungary on 26 September 2005.
We don't want to just break it, we want to break it big time and are looking for 500 people to take part, women, children and men, aged 8 - 80 and you don't need to have any experience of Belly Dancing . Our expert, Tina Hobin, has come up with a very simple 30 second routine - anyone can do it. You don't even need a costume - just some comfortable clothing and maybe the trademark Belly Belt to take part.
All you have to do is to perform this routine non-stop for 5 minutes - it's a simple as that, so easy infact, that Pudsey himself will be taking part.
Sign up now and commit to being part of this record breaking attempt and do your bit for this years Children in Need appeal. A DVD of the routine is available so you can get familiar with it before the big day, or logg onto bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester and learn it online. Don't worry if you can't though, Tina and her team will be on hand before to take us all through our paces.
The attempt will take place at Malvern Theatres at 12noon on Saturday November 8th and registration opens at 9.30. We'll have Showcase performances in the Foyer beforehand and a stall selling Belly Dancing accessories.
We look forward to hearing from you.
