Photography holidays to Luxor, Egypt

A photography holiday and Egyptian experience facilitated by Dr Penny Walters and Karen Kessi-Williams who is a social-documentary photographer.

Of interest to photographers:

Egypt is the home of Temples, Tombs, sunsets, the River Nile, Arabian people, bellydancers...

Photo opportunities include:

  • Ancient buildings: Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, Ramesseum, Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Hatshepsut, close-ups of hieroglyphics
  • social commentary / photo journalism
  • Religious buildings: Mosques, Coptic churches
  • Animals: camels, donkeys, ornithology, cats, dogs, goats, horse & carriages
  • Bellydancers, including the famous Ghawazee Kharriya Mazzin & local bellydancers
  • Nile photos: sunset, sunrise, felucca boats, cruise ships, local people living at waterfront, river birds
  • Scenery: mountains, dessert, village life, fields, farm animals, farm workers, exotic plants, trees, bushes
  • Food and shisha pipes
  • People, Islamic dress, tourists, bellydancers, people-watching, portraits
  • Opportunity to meet and network with other participants from the UK
  • One free day scheduled into itinerary
  • Optional day trip to Cairo, approx extra cost £120 per person
  • Session in portrait studio with local photographer

Costs

  • Hotel Package - £500 per person including taxi to/from hotel, entry fee & taxi to all tourist sights, B&B and soft drinks and daily photographic lessons/ guidance. Not included is: flight, £10 airport tax on arrival in Egypt, dinners.
  • Partner/ friend/ children over 14 - £375pp
  • Non-refundable but transferable deposit of £100 payable with booking
  • Balance due 6 weeks before departure

Karen Kessi-Williams studied photography at Plymouth College of Art and Design from 1988-1992. Since then she has been freelance working primarily for charities, development agencies and international aid organizations, specialising in development issues, mainly in Africa. She has also undertaken many individual, commercial and corporate commissions and her photographs have been published in newspapers, magazines and educational books. Her work crosses the line between photo-journalism and fine-art, and she has exhibited frequently throughout England and the U.S, represented by galleries in both countries.
